The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps individuals and families with low incomes obtain nutritious food. SNAP benefits are issued by USDA through county job and family services departments and are used to purchase specific staples and grocery items at participating grocery stores. Medicaid is a state and federally funded health care program that provides assistance to certain low-income and medically vulnerable people. Ohioans who are eligible for Medicaid are entitled to all medically necessary services. Ohio's Medicaid program provides health care coverage to people who meet certain eligibility requirements. Depending on income, insurance status may affect eligibility and some consumers may be required to pay monthly premiums or co-pays. Ohio Works First (OWF) is a federally funded cash assistance program for families with minor children and pregnant women in their third trimester who meet financial requirements. This program is time limited and may have work requirements as a condition of eligibility. Applicants ages 16-24 who are required to work will be referred to the Comprehensive Case Management and Employment Program for additional services and employment opportunities.
